Undersea adventures of mundane proportions!

So here it is … our winter break project.

I’ll let the video speak for itself. But please, be kind. This is our first-ever video.

So … that didn’t go quite as planned.

I’ll be posting the how-to on the Life and Craft pages very soon, because if we could do this, surely anyone can.

In the end, we may not have seen much. But we had fun. We spent a lot of time planning together and testing and creating the case and trying to get everything just right on the net. It was fun to work together and to see Emmeline’s ideas come to life.

I was a little bummed we didn’t capture a metric sea-load of animals on film. But on one of our last tosses, we pulled up a beautiful orange sea star that was speckled with white dots. Emme couldn’t contain herself.

“We did it! We did it! This is so awesome!”

  1. Love the ending! I thought that was going to be one of those videos where you get tranquilized by the pace, and then some freaky ghoul pops up, accompanied by loud, terrifying music. That’s how I would have done it, anyway.

  2. Ha! You have no idea how close I was to actually doing that.

  3. I can’t believe you didn’t just whip up a zombie costume and do it yourself. Slacker.

  4. I’m secretly thumbs upping here, like facebook, even though you can’t see it. That’s the only finger up, I swear.

  5. Do thumbs count as fingers? Ah, fuck it. Maybe I do need to make a zombie suit.

  6. You capture the city in subtle but interesting ways.

  7. I loved it! And I’m a filmmaker. Very good storytelling. Also, a few weeks ago I followed your lead and took my son and his friend crabfishing and we had a great time. He keeps wanting to go back, and he’s 11, not easy to impress. I’m hoping to get down to pacifica to get some crab that have a little more meat next time.

    Thanks for the blog!

  8. Awesome! That moment when the net appears out of the water is pretty darn fun. We tried Pacifica a few times and had no luck, for all the waves and tangled net ropes. I’d be curious to hear from anyone who HAS had success there. Dungeness taste much better than red or rock crabs, the only thing allowed inside the gg bridge.
