That should pretty much explain the long absences here. We’re out fishing.
And hiking. And skipping. And dog-walking. Running. Playing. Laughing. Hiding. Swimming.
Living.
You name it. We’re doing it.
I’d like to post a big, long, boring essay about my lazy time with the kid and how glorious this magical summer is. But every time I sit down to do it, I think about all the other cool crap I could be doing.
So, instead, I’ll leave you with these.
My brother was in town from Beijing, as he prepares to move to Tanzania, and he busted out his crazy fancy cameras and showed us how to take some serious portraits of the kid. (His photo blog is here.)
I love these.
Every one.
My brother is such a great photographer and I think he really captured Emmeline’s nature in these. She’s sweet, strong, athletic, goofy and, thankfully, looks a lot like her mother.
So there you go. I’ll start posting regularly again soon. But … not yet.
It’s incredibly difficult for a dude who makes a living on the internet not to keep posting, but every once in awhile, you need to step away from the petty, first world dramas, the keyboards and the face pokers to assess what’s important. At least I do.
And this wins.

Lovely pictures. Worth every second of not blogging to have something like that – and the memories. Not so much for you, but for her to have OF you. Doing things together. It may not seem like much now, but it will re-surface when she is an adult.
she is a beautiful child…and growing up so much.
it makes me happy knowing you are taking the time to truly enjoy her.
you will never regret this.
Happy Summer!
She IS growing so much. And maybe that’s why I feel like I want to spend as much time as possible with her, despite the fact that I always DO. But first grade is around the corner, and good lord … I still can’t imagine that. Back to regular non sapping posting soon …
I love the top picture. I love the freckles on her nose. I envy you the summers off. I want to be the SAHM and do as my friend calls it “Mom Camp” over the summers. Have so much fun with her.
And this may come off as a little odd, but I have an almost 6 year old who just snuck under the wire for 1st grade. I have a feeling Emmeline and Samantha (aka Blue Eyes) would get along really well. Too bad we’re in different cities.
